This topic, at least for me personally, is why I am so convinced about the Presbyterian approach to church government. First, there is a plurality of Elders at the local level, for practical accountability, but then also accountability at the regional presbytery, and sometimes above that as well.
No approach is without it’s issues, but I have seen this work really well (and sometimes not).
Yes, I would agree with you. Being born and raised in the SBC it’s always a senior pastor/deacon led combination with either the pastor in charge or the deacons. My wife and I have often talked about leaving ministry and switching denominations.
No denomination is without its sins and issues to be sure. OPC, CREC, and even a lot of the PCA are still very faithful (which is the main thing) with the added benefit of the Presbyterian church government structure. May God light your path!
