What Do We Mean?
Im trying out the new writing feature in the Substack App this morning while waiting for my coffee to be pressed (I know, I’m a coffee diva now.) and watching Good Morning Football on the NFL Network. So they are showing Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers reminiscing about his father who was a football player. One of the hosts of Good Morning Football said “just a good story about family and faith”.
You hear that thrown around a lot in our culture. This man or woman is “a person of faith”. But what do we mean by that?
Faith in who or what? The word “faith” is never defined it is just assumed. You hear this language in the church. So what do you mean when you say that you are a person of faith?
Biblical faith in Christ?
Faith in yourself?
Faith in faith?
Faith in church attendance?
Faith in the universe?
Faith in the Spaghetti God of Alpha 24?
Vague proclamations about faith should never be allowed in the church. You should know in whom you believe - 2nd Timothy 1:12.
So if you call yourself a person of faith even if you attend a Christian church what does that mean?
This is just something to get your brain stirring this morning. Have a blessed day.
