It is about who has authority over your life. Who is Lord over your life?
“And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23
Luke 9:23 has always convicted me, as God’s Word should, to examine my daily motives, especially on a Sunday morning. What do I think? I think that God’s Word is His word and has authority over my life. When I am in sin, His Word convicts me of that sin and I freely confess it to Him for forgiveness. I strive to daily live for Christ because as a Christian that’s what I am supposed to do. As the old saying goes “This ain’t rocket science”.
But to people who say that they are Christians yet reject God’s Word in their life it is “Rocket Science”, because they make it rocket science. They make it hard, they make it about them, they make it divisive, there is almost a Psalm 2 attitude of ““Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” Of course this is my experience in the church, maybe yours is different. But if you are continually asking a pastor or another Christian what their opinion is of Scripture and not actually reading Scripture to see what God has said on the issue then something is wrong. I bring up the example from Part 1 of the woman who sought out pastors to support her desire to divorce her husband. She was not going to stop until she got her desired outcome which was divorce. So again I ask, “Who is Lord over your life?”.
When The Word of God calls out your sin what do you do?
Confess & Repent and make right with your brother or sister?
Justify your sin based on what was done to you?
Sin? What is that?
“So What Do You Think” is about an authority issue in your life. That is the disconnect within our churches and our lives as Christians. We want Jesus just not His Lordship. We want Rick Warren’s “Homeboy Jesus” or Joel Osteen’s “Prosperity Jesus” or Rob Bell’s “Love Wins Jesus”. The Jesus who is okay with whatever you believe as long as you believe in something. See the disconnect from God’s Word? which states in John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” That is not my opinion, that is God’s opinion.
In 1st Timothy 4:1 Paul tells Timothy: “Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,” That’s powerful. You know that you can depart from the faith and still go to church right? You can reject Christ and His Word and still be a pastor, deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir director, youth pastor, etc. etc. etc. … What is the deciding truth in all of this? What God has said in His Word. Where do you stand today on God’s Word?
So what do you think?
And churches just go on like nothing is wrong, because they have zero discernment in their congregations. It is literally the church of the Last Days from 1st Timothy 4. This will be a future post - Discernment.
What you think about God’s Word matters, and you prove what you believe in how you behave.
