I have two bad arthritic hips and I have found that the best way to exercise them is to push mow our yard. It has done wonders these last 3 months and I am grateful to The Lord for relief. If you have bad hips then you know what I am talking about.
While I am push mowing I listen to various artists and albums of my teenage years and I think about a lot of different topics that I have seen and heard over my twenty one years of pastoral ministry. I am sure some of these you have heard as well or maybe you are actively engaged in them now. I have listed a few of those below:
Only people with letters before or after their name are qualified to pastor churches over 100 people. Jesus will not tolerate anything less.
A good pastor preaches in a coat and tie.
I prohibit a Sovereign God from doing what He wants to do in my life, the life that He created.
The free will of man, the only power that God created greater than Himself.
How Progressive Christians read 1st Corinthians 6:9-10:
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1st Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV
Only pastors are qualified to pray before church pot-luck dinners, and we will wait until he makes it down to the fellowship hall so that he understands it.
Jesus Christ, The Messiah, is a weak Savior who will beg you to believe in Him until your dying breath.
Divisive people are okay in our church, they can go after whoever they want as long as they leave me and mine alone. And I’m okay with that.
I don’t want to check on our pastor or his family. That’s not my job, but I’m angry at him because he will not check on me. It’s his JOB!!
Our pastor is an employee we expect him to be Southern Baptist not Biblical. (Probably the most comically sad one until the last one.)
I know that God hates sin, but my sin is small and insignificant. God loves me the way that I am.
Don’t you judge me! How dare you read that bible verse this morning!
Jesus can have %10 of my money or my time and that will be given from 11 to Noon on Sunday mornings. And, I have my alarm set.
After everything that I have done for this issue/problem I guess now I will pray about it. Maybe God can fix it.
God sees my church attendance and what I do for Him and He in turn lets me get by with a few things on the side.
I think that people who tithe the most in our church should be the ones who get to make the decisions.
You need to watch out for this guy named Devin. He takes this God thing too seriously.
I represent the choir in this meeting and we have decided to withhold our tithes and offerings until the pastor is fired or resigns.
And finally, the one everyone has heard: “THIS IS MY CHURCH! I WILL TELL YOU WHAT WE DO HERE. THIS IS MY CHURCH!” (This was actually screamed into my face at my first church by a woman who actually believed the building and everything in it belonged to her. Including the people.)
These are but a few of what I have either: heard along the way, actual conversation with church members, or flat out said on Sunday mornings. So after twenty one years this one clear truth presents itself: unregenerate people who identify as a Christian hate the expository preaching and teaching of God’s Word. It reveals who they really are and they hate that. It really does show and it will continue to be this way until Christ returns.
So I will simply leave you with this from 2nd Timothy 2:23:
Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. NIV
Unless this is your church and you’re going to make sure and tell me what goes on here.
“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."”
Matthew 12:36-37 ESV
